Nightguards (splints)

Nightguards can be a useful tool to protect teeth from cracking when grinding and clenching, and to alleviate TMD pain. TMJ/TMD (temporomandibular joint syndrome or dysfunction) is a disorder where the joints are out of alignment.

Symptoms Include:

Headaches/migraines
Facial, neck and shoulder and/or jaw pain
Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Unexplained loose teeth
Sensitive and sore teeth
Limited jaw movement or locking jaw
Worn or cracked teeth

TMD can be treated with working with your dentist, medical doctor, chiropractor, acupuncturist and /or physiotherapist. In fact, a key part of treatment is learning to manage your condition at home.

Some helpful suggestions from Dr. Worsley for TMD

Don't chew gum, chew softer foods in small bite, and don't try to "stretch" the joint ligaments by excessive opening. Use anti-inflammatory medication if allowed/prescribed. Place warm, moist heat to the joints if sore but not inflamed. Wear your custom made splint or nightguard (not mouthguard).

Sportsguards (mouthguards)

Custom made guards are fabricated to act as a shock absorber for sports such as hockey, snowboarding and wrestling. Bring in your team colour to see if we change the guard's normal clear colour to create a great match.
